The College at Brockport announced this weekend that the school has hired a new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Katy Heyning will be taking over duties from Dr. James Haynes who has been serving as interim provost since July 2016. Heyning currently serves as Dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She will join Brockport on June 18th.
Five students from The College at Brockport are among 249 students from across the SUNY system who were honored last week by Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson with the 2018 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. Kiara Alfonseca, a double major in Journalism/Broadcasting and English, Justin Galardi, a Biochemistry major, Mei La a Nursing Major, Cheryl Limer, a double major in computer science and psychology, and Melissa Szurgyi, a double major in Sociology and Women and Gender studies were all honored on April 10th.
The College at Brockport was ranked as one of America’s best public Colleges and Universities by a study from the Buffalo Business First a weekly newspaper in the Buffalo area. The study sought to identify public universities and colleges that offer the best educational experiences to their students. Brockport was ranked 35 in the east region and 117 nationwide; putting the college in the top 25% of public colleges in the nation. The president of the College at Brockport Heidi Macpherson said “Recognition by these external organizations helps reinforce what we already know; Brockport is a great place for our students to learn.”
