Cordell Cumming

From Talon Television to ESPN. Cordell Cumming fast-tracked his career in sports journalism by leaping over small and medium markets and climbing straight to the top at ESPN.

After graduating in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Broadcasting, Cordell was hired by ESPN as a production assistant. He is currently a content associate at ESPN and recently won the 2020-21 Sports Emmy for Outstanding Daily Studio Show as Associate Producer.

During his time at Talon, Cordell served as sports director and sports anchor.

Kayla Green

Kayla immersed herself in everything Talon during her time at Brockport. She joined the club in her freshman year in 2014 co-hosting the popular entertainment program What’s Up What’s Down.

Kayla’s true passion for news led her to become news director and her passion for Talon pushed her into her final role as station manager.

Even before she had her degree in hand in, Kayla was hired by WROC-TV in Rochester as a general assignment reporter. Kayla spent two and half years at News 8 before accepting a job as a reporter at WIVB-TV News 4 Buffalo in June of 2021.

Talon TV adviser Kim Young knew Kayla was destined for television journalism.

“Kayla would spend countless hours working with me on her writing and storytelling skills,” Young said. “I have such fond memories of Kayla sitting outside my office door waiting for me to work with her. I loved her passion and her quirky sense of humor. I always knew Kayla would do great things. Her passion and drive were inspiring. I’m wildly proud of her,” Young said.

Kayla Green graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Broadcasting in 2018.

Ben Vahey

Ben Vahey (‘19) became involved with the club in 2017. With a passion for sports, he was involved in the sports department and worked his way up to become the sports director. Vahey is currently a news photographer and multimedia journalist at WKTV in Utica, NY.

Emily Burkhard

Emily Burkhard (‘16) became involved with the club when it was called Brockport Television. Starting in the news department, she worked her way up to becoming a news director to the president of the club. She finished her credits early and got an internship in NYC at Dateline which helped get her first job as a reporter and eventually weekend anchor with WETM in Elmira, NY. Burkhard is now a general assignment reporter for  WNYT Channel 13 in Albany, NY.
