Purple Run, Wing Fest, and Trash to Treasure

On Wednesday May, 2nd, Brockport will be hosting the purple run 4k change. The run, which supports relationship violence awareness will take place at 5:30 on the campus mall. The event is free for students and 5 dollars for faculty, staff and community. Students can register at the event or online.
On Friday May 4th Brockport will be hosting its annual wingfest. The event will take place on the campus mall. There will be wings from local venues, along with henna tattoos, popcorn snow cones and vegan options available as well.
The Office of Community development is looking for volunteers for the annual trash for treasure collection. Donation bins are located in every residence hall for people to donate unwanted food, clothes, and appliances as they move out this semester. The items are then redistributed to 30 different local nonprofits. There are multiple shifts and volunteer positions available from May 3rd to the 14th. Interested students, faculty and staff can email community@brockport.edu or go to Seymour College Union 203.

Voting for BSG Elections Now Open and Garbage Plates Making Their Way Across the Country

Elections for BSG president and vice president are going on now. Students can cast their vote on myBROCKPORT for the candidates they feel are the best for the job. Those running include Joshua Mathews and Kate Demskie, Zachary Kornberg and Elliot Zalewski, and Aaron Snyder and Felicia Minton. For more information on each of their platforms, check out Talon TV’s website. Voting closes tomorrow at 11:59 p.m.
A Rochester staple is making its way across the country. The Nashville Predators hockey team served garbage plates during their playoff game Sunday night. The Bridgestone Arena posted a photo of the plates on Twitter. They were called “Smash Plates” on the menu, in reference to Predators fan base, Smashville.
Concert goers everywhere are used to spending a lot on tickets, but maybe not this week. LiveNation is treating fans during National Concert Week by offering 20 dollar tickets on a number of shows. Several popular summer tours including Maroon 5, Vans Warped Tour, and Zac Brown Band are part of the deal. The promotion lasts from today until May 8 on select shows while supplies last. Rochester Man Flees Scene After Accident, House Fire in Riga and Campus Events This Weekend
Rochester Police arrested a man for drunk driving and leaving the scene of the accident Thursday morning. They say at around 1:45 a.m. the man hit a car by the intersection of Upper Falls Boulevard and St Paul Street. This caused one of the cars to hit a utility pole. The man tried to drive away, but was followed by a woman in another car until he was arrested by police. The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
Multiple fire departments were called Wednesday evening at around 11:30 p.m for a home that caught fire overnight. A family in Riga was forced out of their home on Jenkins Road after it caught fire that night. The fire is believed to have started in the laundry room and spread throughout the rest of the house according to investigators. The sound of the smoke detectors woke the family up inside allowing them to get out safely.
Next Thursday The Walk Your Way: Fashion Club will be hosting their 90s Day Party: Space Jam edition at 2:30 pm in the Union Ballroom. Students can come dressed in their best 90s outfits for a chance to win prizes and enter tickets into a raffle. Tickets are on sale at the box office for 1 dollar. Following that event, they will then be hosting their Pajama Jam after party at 7pm, tickets for that are free.

NYS Plastic Bag Ban, Interfaith Relations, and Doctor Patient Relationship in Hilton

Governor Andrew Cuomo proposed a bill to ban single use plastic bags in New York state. The announcement of the bill comes on April 23rd one day after earth day. If the bill is to pass New York will join California as the second state to ban plastic bags.
Tonight there will be a community conversation on Interfaith Relations. The event starts at 4 and will be held in eagle’s lookout. Some of the topics for the event include communication, compassion and respect.
A Hilton Doctor is suspended over a relationship with patient. Dr.Mark Sarnov is on probation for 33 months after it was found out he had an inappropriate relationship with an adult female patient.
