Buffalo Students Rally For Gun Control, Women Taking Over Rugby, and Welcome Week Volunteers Needed

By Kayla Green @KaylaGreen04

Students around Western New York are working to make a change in their local government regarding gun violence. Students part of the group “Students for Action” held a town hall style meeting in Buffalo Saturday. Community members were able to speak and voice their concerns about how to prevent mass shootings. Local lawmakers such as Congressman Brian Higgins, Congressman Chris Collins and congressional candidate and Grand Island town supervisor Nate MacMurray attended the meeting.

Women are taking over the rugby world. The sport is bringing more than a thousand players from 10 different states and Canada right here to Western New York, many of them women. Female players say they like that it’s the only sport in the world where all the rules are the same for boys and girls.

Student Union and Activities is looking for Welcome Week Assistants. Interested students should be upbeat, positive, and willing to help new students settle in to Brockport. Volunteers also must be available during Welcome Week, which is August 22 through August 29. If you’re interested, you can apply on myBROCKPORT by April 20.
