Amber Alerts in Rochester, Finals Week Preparations, and the premiere of “Prelude to a Kiss”

By Violet Scibior

In the past week, two amber alerts were issued for children abducted, both with a common theme. The first amber alert was issued last Thursday, when 22 year old Guillermo Torres-Acevedo of Batavia took a 14 year old Byron girl from school. Later that day, Torres-Acevedo was located in Pennsylvania along with the girl he abducted. The second amber alert was issued on Saturday, when 41 year old felon Robert Gonzalez abducted a 14 year old girl from Lasalle Street in Rochester. Gonzalez and the girl were finally found by Rochester Police, in New York City this past Tuesday. Both girls were found with no serious injuries, but were being sexually exploited by these men. Gonzalez and Torres-Acevedo were accused of having an illegal sexual relationship with these young girls, but charges are not yet made.

Finals week is approaching fast, in only just three more days! Here’s some tips to help you get prepared: Create your own study guide, organize a study group, go to your teachers’ office hours, stay well rested, and remember to take breaks when studying.

Don’t forget to come see the premiere of “Prelude to a Kiss” tonight, in the Tower Fine Arts Center Mainstage Theatre from 7:30 – 9:30pm. If you can’t make it, the performance will also be held this Saturday from 7:30 – 9:30pm. The event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased at the door. Tickets cost $9 for students, $17 for general audiences, and $12 for seniors, Brockport faculty, staff, and alumni.
