Brockport Football Coach Receives Award, Village Power Outage, and Fatal Car Accident

The Brockport Wegmans was shut down Sunday after a power outage that surged through areas of Brockport. While many wegmans employees tried to assist customers by shining flashlights down the aisles, management closed doors, on super bowl sunday, to prevent any accidents or injuries to their shoppers. The store opened back up once the power was restored. The reason for the outage is still unknown.

A man has died following a crash on Saturday afternoon. Mauriece Johnson of Rochester had to be removed from his vehicle by first responders. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he died due to his injuries.

THe AFCA announced the selections for Coach of the year, and one of Brockport’s own was named Division III National Football Coach of the Year.  Jason Mangone lead Brockport football to  No. 5, according to the polls. The Golden Eagles had an almost undefeated season, and the players are looking forward to next season.

Queens parking dispute results in tragedy and Brockport football advances to Final Four

A parking dispute resulted in tragedy yesterday in New York City. A man involved in the dispute was enraged to the point of stabbing two people in the chest, and then driving into a group of pedestrians on the sidewalk in Queens. 1 person was killed, and 5 others, including the two who were stabbed, were hospitalized and are now in stable condition. While no charges have been filed yet, the driver is now in custody.

In lighter news the Golden Eagles returned home from Delaware Valley on Saturday with a victory. The Golden Eagles initially held a lead, until DelVal scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 28-28. With 2 seconds left in the game, senior kicker Brett Renzi scored a field goal propelling them into the final 4 for the first time in program history. Brockport will now travel to Belton, Texas next weekend to face defending champion and No. 1 ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor University in the National Semifinals.
